The unique feature of this bed is that the patient floats on a layer of microsphere (70 ? 140 u) which are suspended in an air flow This results in a very low contact a very low contact pressure (8 ? 10 mm of Hg) well bellow capillary pressure and maintains good blood circulation. Controlled temperature air( 20 ? 36 C) comes from beneath the bed and keeps the contact air dry, this prevents maceration of skin. The bed has low humidity (40 %) & hence no matrix culture is provided for microorganism to grow and the risk of bacterial transmission is eliminated. All these features help to prevent superficial burns to become deep, a common problem with other beds.
